We have exciting news here at FanLabel: A massive update has landed in the app stores! Make sure to update to the latest version of the FanLabel app on iOS or Android and check out the new features and gameplay.

So, why should you play FanLabel?

Once you set up your fantasy record label, you can play fun daily and weekly music contests and challenges. Choose the songs you think will get the most combined real-world streams from Spotify, Apple Music and other streaming music services. You’re picking songs from both major artists and brand new acts across various genres, such as pop, hip-hop, country and many more. If you do well, you’ll rise up the leaderboards, earn virtual Royalties and level up as you play. Use your Royalties to buy exclusive merchandise and cool experiences in the FanLabel Marketplace. FanLabel allows you to prove you know how to pick hit songs, sign great artists and grow a successful fantasy record label.

Now, in version 5.0, the experience has been revitalized as the focus switches to quicker gameplay, with immediate results and an emphasis on a ton of new challenges and contests to play within the app.

Don’t worry, the overall gameplay remains largely the same. However, FanLabel now offers snappier, easy-to-play content, allowing users to quickly get to contests they’re passionate about, while receiving instant results as well.

Here is a quick rundown on what to expect within the app:

How to Play New FanLabel Contests and Challenges

Immediate contests

In past versions of FanLabel, the only contests/challenges that provided instant gratification with immediate results were Quick Picks. With the new update, FanLabel v5.0 now puts an emphasis on contests/challenges providing immediate results. The results are based on what song generated the most streams over the last week. It is up to the FanLabel players to identify the winning song from a list of five. Once a song is chosen, the streaming totals for each song and the order of rank for all five songs will appear. These contests and challenges will vary by genre or theme, and may be a mix of more recent songs and older songs. Another cool new feature in the update is that you can now see what songs your friends (the people you follow in FanLabel) have picked.

Daily contests are just as they sound — one day challenges. There will be one individual 24-hour long contest each day of the week, and all seven of those throughout the week will be grouped to form an individual leaderboard. The genre/theme of these leaderboards will change each week, but the group will most likely be made up of the same type of contests/challenges — either all “immediate” challenges or all “live” challenges — but we may decide to mix things up every once in a while.

Live Best of Five

The Live Best of Five contest type is more of the classic FanLabel functionality. It is a longer-term contest, and the streaming results from Spotify, Apple Music, etc. won’t be known for a day, week or longer depending on what the duration of the contest is set to. The songs included here are newer, just-dropped tracks that don’t already have a lot of streaming data behind them. Your job as a virtual record label is to determine which song will accumulate the most streams over the contest’s duration. You’ll be notified if you won when the contest ends!

Quick Picks (Immediate)

Two songs go head-to-head, and FanLabel players choose which track they believe had the most streams over the past week. The results are immediately displayed, and it’s all-or-nothing — you earn Royalties for a correct pick, but earn nothing for an incorrect pick — just like the last version!

Quick Picks (Timed)

Quick Picks (see above), but with an extra level of difficulty. The timed Quick Picks present the extra challenge of having to decide between the two tracks before the 15-second timer runs out. Again, all-or-nothing!

Crowd Favorite

Crowd Favorites (or Fan Favorites) is the only contest type where the streaming data doesn’t matter. Instead, FanLabel players will predict the track they think will be most popular, as picked by fellow players. The results will need time to collect the data, so the Crowd Favorites will not resolve until after the contest’s duration, which may be one day, one week or longer.

Just to recap:
