FanLabel kicked off “Music Madness,” a bracket-style competition, over these past weeks and it’s been a huge hit. The inaugural “Music Madness” competition ran throughout the month of April, and the theme was college fight songs. We started with 16 fight songs and tallied fan votes to determine the winner of each round, while rewarding users who correctly identified the schools/fight songs that moved on.

We will quickly recap the results of each round, which you can check out below and compare to your own picks if you participated.

Round One

The first round began with eight matchups and 16 schools:

Region 1:

Texas (“Texas Fight”) vs. North Carolina (“Carolina Fight Song”)
Tennessee (“Rocky Top”) vs. Alabama (“Yea Alabama”)

Region 2:

Ohio State (“Buckeye Battle Cry”) vs. Kansas (“I’m a Jayhawk”)
Wisconsin (“On, Wisconsin”) vs. Kentucky (“On, On U of K”)

Region 3:

Michigan State (“Victory For MSU”) vs. Virginia (“The Good Old Song”)
Indiana (“Indiana Our Indiana”) vs. Notre Dame (“Notre Dame Victory March”)

Region 4:

Michigan (“The Victors”) vs. Duke (“Fight Blue Devils Fight”)
UCLA “The Mighty Bruins”) vs. Auburn (“War Eagle”)

Michigan, Auburn, Texas, Alabama, Ohio State, Kentucky, Michigan State and Notre Dame all moved on to the next round. The votes made by FanLabel players determined this outcome. Those players who correctly picked the winners were rewarded with 100 Royalties for this round.

Notre Dame was the leading vote-getter of the round.

Round Two

For the second round, the matchups were as follows:

Region 1:

Texas (“Texas Fight”) vs. Alabama (“Yea Alabama”)

Region 2:

Ohio State (“Buckeye Battle Cry”) vs. Kentucky (“On, On U of K”)

Region 3:

Michigan State (“Victory For MSU”) vs. Notre Dame (“Notre Dame Victory March”)

Region 4:

Michigan (“The Victors”) vs. Auburn (“War Eagle”)

All of the matchups in this round were close, with all four coming down to a difference of nine votes or less, and three of the four contests coming down to a difference of six votes or less. At the end of the week, it was Texas, Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame declaring victory. This round paid out 200 Royalties per correct guess.

Texas was the leading vote-getter, while Michigan had the slimmest margin of victory.

Round Three

Our four finalists matched up as follows:

Region 1 Champion: Texas (“Texas Fight”) vs. Region 2 Champion: Ohio State (“Buckeye Battle Cry”)

Region 3 Champion: Notre Dame (“Notre Dame Victory March”) vs. Region 4 Champion: Michigan (“The Victors”)

Texas ran away with the victory against Ohio State, however, Michigan, which narrowly escaped the last round, advanced by a single vote. The third round rewarded 500 Royalties per correct selection.

With Texas performing well throughout, and Michigan barely scraping by, the writing appeared to be on the wall as to which school would be crowned champion.

However…

Championship Round

Texas (“Texas Fight”) vs. Michigan (“The Victors”)

Michigan stunned Texas in the final round, to fittingly become “The Victors.” The Wolverines didn’t make it particularly close, either, receiving nearly 60 percent of the votes. FanLabel users who correctly predicted Michigan as champion received a whopping 1,000 Royalties to their label!

That wraps up our inaugural “Music Madness” challenge. Be on the lookout for more bracket-style challenges from FanLabel in the future, using many different and fun themes.
